Drugs & Devices

Medical breakthroughs, including most prescription drugs and medical devices, have improved the quality of life for us and our loved ones.

We’ve come to rely on these to help us feel better and cure our illnesses, but what happens when manufacturers and drugmakers put unsafe products on the market that worsen our medical conditions, create new and dangerous symptoms, or kill us or our loved ones?

Research shows many pharmaceutical companies didn’t test their products sufficiently before selling them to patients who depended on these drugmakers to treat their medical conditions. In some cases, these companies hid studies about adverse side effects because they valued profits over safety.

In addition to the pain and suffering caused by these products, procedures or other medications that treat the side effects can be expensive.

At The Peterson Firm, we believe that drug and medical device companies — not you — should be held accountable for delivering unsafe products into the hands of consumers without warning them about potentially deadly risks.

Legal claims against these manufacturers can help cover the expense of ongoing medical costs and surgeries stemming from their products. You need to take the first step by filing a lawsuit against them. It’s your right.

Dangerous Drugs

Our firm handles a multitude of lawsuits involving dangerous drugs, including low testosterone medication (Low T) AndroGel, antipsychotic drug Risperdal, Type 2 diabetes drug Actos, high blood pressure medication Benicar and male erectile dysfunction drug Viagra.

While these drugs treat those conditions, studies show they are linked to adverse side effects.

  • Low T Drugs: Some men taking testosterone therapy drugs, such as AndroGel, have suffered heart-related issues, including cardiac arrests and strokes, as well as other adverse side effects. They are filing lawsuits saying they were not properly warned of the risks.
  • Risperdal: While approved for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and autism spectrum issues, it is being used “off label” for attention deficit disorder, sleep difficulties and depression. Adverse side effects include breast development in boys, diabetes and heart problems. Manufacturer Johnson & Johnson faces hundreds of lawsuits.
  • Actos: Takeda Pharmaceuticals produced the diabetes drug, and it generated $4 billion in sales. Studies show it’s linked to bladder cancer and other complications. A Louisiana federal jury in 2014 awarded a man $9 billion in punitive damages and $1.5 million in compensatory damages from the company for hiding the drug’s risks.
  • Benicar: Although the drug is designed to treat high blood pressure, some people taking the medication developed serious gastrointestinal problems. A Mayo Clinic study found Benicar was linked to chronic diarrhea, severe weight loss, malnourishment and intestinal damage. Many filed lawsuits seeking compensation for their pain and suffering, as well as medical bills.
  • Viagra: More than 45 million men have used the erectile dysfunction pill to improve their sex lives, but studies link the drug to melanoma — the deadliest form of skin cancer. Many former Viagra takers have filed lawsuits against drugmaker Pfizer for painful erections, vision and hearing loss, chest pains and other adverse reactions.
AndroGel, Risperdal, Actos, Benicar and Viagra are among several drugs found to have adverse side effects
Hip replacements and other defective medical devices can cause severe, crippling pain, and may require revision surgery.

Unsafe Medical Devices

Over the last several years, thousands of people have filed lawsuits against the manufacturers of hip implants, knee replacements and transvaginal mesh. Plaintiffs in many of these cases claim the products from the device makers caused them severe, crippling pain, and forced them to have revision surgery.

Hip Implants: Recipients of metal-on-metal hips have reported infections and metal poisoning after metal ions from the devices entered their blood stream. Others have shown loss of bone around the implant, which leads to loosening of the hip.

Knee Replacements: While these implants help people regain their ability to walk, the most common problem is loosening of the device, which is caused by a faulty product or surgeon error. Faulty implants also can lead to bone fractures, infection and dislocation.

Transvaginal Mesh: The product was manufactured to treat pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence in women. However, complications include recurrence of prolapse, erosion, vaginal scarring, nerve damage, bleeding and infection, among other painful conditions.

Complications from dangerous drugs and medical devices are serious to the well-being and quality of life of those affected.

The Peterson Firm is committed to bring those responsible for your pain and suffering to justice. Take the first step and call us now at 1-800-532-3764.
